1. Program Introduction

Editor Notes: SAIF MF stands as one of the most prestigious finance programs in Asia.

Shanghai Advanced Institute of Finance (SAIF) was established within Shanghai Jiao Tong University (SJTU) in April 2009, with strategic and financial support from the Shanghai Municipal Government. SAIF is AACSB accredited and is recognized internationally as one of the top business schools in the world.

The Master of Finance (MF) program has been the flagship program at SAIF since its inception in the Autumn of 2009. SAIF's MF program was ranked No.1 in Asia and No.10 globally by the Financial Times in 2018. By 2020, SAIF MF ranked No.1 in Asia for the third consecutive time in the FT Master of Finance Ranking. Currently, SAIF MF stands as one of the most prestigious finance programs in Asia.

The SAIF MF Program recruits world-class faculty from leading business schools around the world. The program—taught completely in English— has a cutting-edge curriculum, an educational structure with an international vision, and state-of-the-art facilities supported by a financial trading lab. The curriculum is designed to anticipate future trends, as well as to meet requirements for current practices within the financial industry—both in China and abroad. In addition to the technical skills provided by our major finance classes, our LIVE Learning Center and the “Extended Learning and Student Activities” (ELSA) seminars help students to enhance their practical skills and knowledge.

2. Curriculum Introduction

Editor Notes: The curriculum structure and elective fields can meet the needs of financial job market.

The overall course setting of MF program and teaching content of each course fully reflect the basic style to closely connect the development of international financial field with the actual conditions of domestic and foreign markets. The more balanced curriculum structure and different elective tracks fit well with the financial job market and demonstrate students' professional skills.

Aimed at fostering the next-generation of talents, the MF-FinTech Program presents a curriculum focusing on three domains: Finance, Statistics & Machine Learning, and Computer Skills & Applications.

3. Class Profile and Career Prospect

Editor Notes: Asset management, investment banking/securities/financial advisory, consulting (management/financial service) and commercial banking/policy bank are the most popular fields among MF graduates.

Since SAIF MF program focuses on pre-experience students, our goal is to help students enter the entry-level position of top firms in each field. We have enjoyed considerable success in this regard.

The sub-industry breakdown indicates that asset management, investment banking/securities/financial advisory, consulting (management/financial service) and commercial banking/policy bank are the most popular fields among MF graduates in 2019. In regards to the location, a majority of graduates' work in Shanghai as most hedge funds, prime brokers and domestic investment banks are based in Shanghai, and our geographical advantage allowed students to have access both in advisory and internship through the duration of the program. Another 4% graduates work in North America and Europe.

4. Career Development

Editor Notes: CDC is dedicated to providing students with professional career development mentoring, training students how to most effectively promote their professional skills and experience, helping graduates achieve their career goals and facilitating the building of close connections between graduates and employers.

5. Shanghai Advanced Institute of Finance Introduction

Editor Notes: SAIF is among the youngest AACSB-accredited business schools in the world.

SAIF earned the international accreditation from The Association to Advance Collegiate Schools of Business (AACSB) on February 28, 2016. SAIF is among the youngest AACSB-accredited business schools in the world. AACSB accreditation represents the highest standards in business education and has only been earned by less than 5 percent of the world's business schools. In 2021, AACSB extended SAIF’s accreditation for an additional five years.

In 2020, SAIF’s MF program was ranked No. 1 in Asia for the third consecutive time by Financial Times, distinguishing itself in "Faculty with Doctorates" (No.1 in the world), “Salary Today” (No.4 globally), "Salary Percentage Increase" (No.5 worldwide and No.1 in Asia) and "International course experience” (No.25 globally and No.1 in Asia).
