Entry Requirements
1. Graduation from high school or equivalent educational background. Prospective graduates must provide a pre-graduation certificate issued by their school and obtain their high school diploma before enrollment.
2. Non-Chinese citizens holding a valid foreign passport, in compliance with the relevant regulations of the Chinese Ministry of Education, including the “Document No. 12 (2020) of Ministry of Education of the PRC “, etc.
3. Good physical and mental health, with no criminal record.
4. English language requirements
For non-native speakers of English, either TOEFL (iBT, code: 6210) or IELTS score is required.
4.1 TOEFL (iBT, including the Home Edition and Paper Edition): 90 or above; TOEFL Essentials: 10 or above.
4.2 IELTS: 6 or above.
Exceptions: You may be exempted from providing any of these exams if your SAT Evidence-Based Reading and Writing score is 650 or above, if both your ACT Reading and English scores are 27 or above, or if you have recently completed at least 4 years of rigorous academic study in any of the following countries: Anguilla, Antigua, Barbuda, Australia, Bahamas, Barbados, Bermuda, British Virgin Islands, Canada (except Quebec), Cayman Islands, Dominica, England, Federated, Northern Ireland, Scotland, Seychelles, Shetland Islands, St. Kitts-Nevis, St. Lucia, St. Vincent and the Grenadines, Trinidad and Tobago, Turks and Caicos Islands, United States (other than Puerto Rico), US Virgin Islands, Wales, and Singapore. (Those in American Schools and British Schools abroad may also be exempted if at least 4 years of rigorous academic study have recently been completed and if test scores meet the above standards.)
5. Test Scores
5.1 China Scholastic Competency Assessment (CSCA), Score with Mathematics is required. Applicants who have not yet taken the CSCA may submit other Test score materials initially (such as SAT /AP/ACT /A-Level/IB (code: N010601)/UEC/UNT/SJTU entrance test/others). Those who pass the university's selection process will receive a pre-admission notice and must supplement their CSCA scores by June 30, 2026. Upon passing the final selection, a formal admission notice will be issued.

c. International Baccalaureate (IB), you need to apply with Math HL 5 or above or SL 7 in Math or above. Predicted A-level or IB scores are NOT accepted.
d. Students with valid college entrance exam scores, please contact the International Undergraduate Recruitment Office at gc-admissions@sjtu.edu.cn (e.g., Malaysia UEC exam scores, Kazakhstan UNT scores. France National Exam scores, etc.)
e. If you don’t have any exam scores mentioned above, you have an option to take the SJTU International Undergraduate Entrance Exam in spring 2026 with other international students.

An international reputation for academic excellence and research, wonderful locations in one of the worlds most vibrant cities, and cultural enrichment and career development - elements that will dovetail with my own aims as well as appreciation of Asian heritage through my Indian roots. This made me lean toward Shanghai Jiao Tong University (SJTU). Academic Excellence and Edge Research Opportunities
I would like to see tighter academic requirements and stronger devotion to research, especially at the undergraduate level. As a world-class university, SJTU definitely shines in areas like engineering and computer science and business management, areas of academic interest for me. But what would really draw me in is this interdisciplinary focus and how the students at SJTU become innovators, engaging further with pioneering research in these and other fields of artificial intelligence, data science, and environmental technologies. The most attractive prospect would be straight access to top-of-the-line labs and advanced research facilities under respected faculty members-leaders in their fields, I would be able to go deeper into my knowledge of theories and get equipped with such precious skills. This exposure is more than deepening my knowledge on the chosen subjects it will equip me with very key practical skills for the kind of careers I am seeking.
2. Location in Shanghai: A Cultural, Commercial, and Innovation Hub
Shanghai is Chinas largest city that also serves as one financial hub and the right fit for personal and professional growth. This blend of old and new inspires an atmosphere only Chinese, and a city whose changing tech industry and startup culture make it just the perfect place to have firsthand experience about a thriving economy. Ample opportunities in exchange and networking with other people as well as professional and professional development can be enjoyed in a very large global community of the city of Shanghai due to sector-specific conferences-even an opportunity to work with companies like any intern who can work with them for some time as the companies have their head offices in the city. Thereafter, the experience in Shanghai equips the student to hone his brilliance more in the Chinese language and keeps her absolutely d with the mode of communication and culture always in transformational steps that would facilitate better integration with the Asian heritage because a person emerging an Indian origin who has special appreciation for cultural diversity like myself.

4. International Student Support and Diversity of Community As an international student, getting accustomed to a new ry and its culture is, of course, playing a very key role Im much impressed by the efforts at SJTU to support and facilitate the international students. This not only includes language support but also the available variety of cultural activities SJTU helps ease us into this place. With such diversity in the international community on campus, I should gain quite a broad perspective both through this global network and friendships and professional connections developed across cultures. Furthermore, the city has a fantastic expatriate community, so cultural adaptation will be welcog and embracing with numerous opportunities for learning local culture and traditions.
5. Cultural Interaction and Mandarin Speaking Ability
Being in Shanghai, SJTU will give me a perfect platform for indulging myself into the great history of this land and the energetic cultures that fill it- visiting art districts and the historical places of Shanghais Bund to participating in all celebrations of local festivals to learn about China deeply and its culture. It would more effectively allow me to understand the Chinese values and perceptions about living, increasingly valued within this increasingly globalized world. Another reason is that SJTUs Mandarin courses are also attractive to me for I wish to be fluent in a language generally perceived as an essential asset to business people of any geographic area of the world. Along with this, it will help in career moves also: multinational companies are quite interested in people who can speak Mandarin.
Henceforth, it will serve as an excellent fit for me with a good set of academic programs, ideal strategic location at Shanghai, support towards the university by the international community of students and research to create more sustainability. Being an Indian, in itself is replete with cultural diversity, so I really look forward to the uniqueness that Chinas culture and history can offer in learning the academic rigour of the university as well as the dynamic environment of the city. Program Description
Founded in 1896, Shanghai Jiao Tong University (SJTU) is one of the internationally recognized, top-tier research universities in China, with strong commitment to nurturing future leaders with innovative drives and global visions. The Engineering Cluster Program is a new undergraduate international program designed to combine the strengths of engineering-related fields at SJTU. Offering all major courses in English or French, the Cluster Program welcomes prospective students with an interest in engineering studies from all over the world.
The SJTU Undergraduate Engineering Cluster program in English includes:

Cluster students will take introductory engineering courses in the first 1.5 years at the UM-SJTU Joint Institute. After meeting this requirement, Cluster students may choose to continue their studies at the UM-SJTU Joint Institute or transfer to another engineering school (in English or Chinese) to complete their bachelor's degree.
Reminder: Although all Cluster courses are taught in English, Cluster students are required to take Chinese culture and language courses while enrolling in their respective degree programs. All Cluster students are expected to meet HSK 4 (Chinese Language Test) as the minimal Chinese language requirement for graduation. Exceptions include Cluster students enrolling in the UM-SJTU Dual Degree Program, JI-KTH 3+2 Bachelor's Program, or other international programs.
